Southampton Football Club, often referred to as The Saints, is a professional football club based in Southampton, England. Founded in 1885, the club boasts a rich history in English football, known for developing young talent and playing an attractive, attacking style of football. Southampton FC plays its home matches at the iconic St. Mary's Stadium, a 32,000-capacity ground that has been their home since 2001. Southampton has spent much of its existence in the top tiers of English football, most notably competing in the Premier League. The club's most famous triumph came in 1976 when they won the FA Cup, cementing their status in English football history. Throughout the years, Southampton has earned a reputation as a breeding ground for young players, with several international stars such as Gareth Bale, Luke Shaw, and Adam Lallana emerging from the club’s famed youth academy, known as The Southampton Academy. Nicknamed "The Saints" due to the club's original affiliation with St. Mary's Church, Southampton FC has a loyal fan base and a strong rivalry with Portsmouth FC, known as the South Coast Derby.
